John Twelves Freeman
2/9/1940 ~ 6/10/2010

John T. Freeman, beloved husband of Lucy Wachter Freeman, passed away in Coronado on June 10th of advanced metastatic melanoma. John was born in Seattle, Washington to Dorothy and Miller Freeman, Jr., and was the eldest of their four sons. He received a BS degree in Business Economics from Claremont McKenna College, and an MBA degree in Finance from the University of Southern California. Two years of active duty in the US Army Ordinance Corps were followed by four years of reserve service. He was discharged as a first lieutenant in 1968. For over thirty years John served in a variety of accounting and financial positions with start-up/emerging technology companies and large multi-national firms.

John was dedicated to serving his community. He was an active member of the Optimist Club of Coronado for over thirty years, serving as President 1992-93, and as Treasurer for many years. He served as an Elder at Graham Memorial Church and was a lay reader for Sunday services. John was an avid sailor and enjoyed racing with his friends at the Coronado Yacht Club. He was an active bicycle rider who rode to Imperial Beach with a group of friends twice a week. He served as a volunteer on a bicycle committee for the City of Coronado, and also served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

He and Lucy enjoyed traveling and spent some wonderful vacations in England, France, Germany, Scotland and Ireland, to name a few. They were looking forward to a number of additional trips which, unfortunately, did not happen due to John's illness. John is survived by Lucy, his wife of 26 years, daughters Nicole of Sonoma, CA, Catherine, and grandson Colin, both of Sacramento, CA, and son Eric of Oakland, CA. He is also survived by brothers Lawrence, Neal, and Miller Freeman III. A memorial service was celebrated on Monday, June 21st at 11:00 a.m., at Graham Memorial Church, 975 C Avenue, Coronado, CA , followed by a memorial reception at the Coronado Yacht Club. Final resting place for John was at sea off the coast of San Diego by Ashes On The Sea. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Coronado Optimist Foundation, P.O. Box 180251, Coronado, CA 92178.
