John E. Breeze, 81, Sarasota, formerly of Hollywood, FL, died peacefully on Sept. 15, 2010 in Brandon, FL.

Born in Paterson, New Jersey to Margaret (Decker) and Edward Breeze, he attended Eastside High School. A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, he sailed on the U.S.S. Randolph and U.S.S. Midway in the "rough years," as he always said, "1946, 47, 48."

After training as an apprentice and journeyman, he spent many years working with tile and marble on residential, commercial and government installations. Some of his favorite projects included creating the mosaic murals in the lobby of the Uris Theatre (now the Gershwin) on Broadway and serving as tile and marble foreman during the construction of the World Trade Center.

His beloved wife Vi and brother Edward predeceased him. Survivors include brothers Robert and Harry; four daughters, Laura Breeze (Van Huff), Donna Breeze (Paul Neff), Carol Breeze (Michael Ahwesh) and Kathy Kirby (Ronnie); and three grandsons, J.D. Kirby, Khoury Ahwesh and Jacob Ahwesh.

The family encourages all who knew "Uncle Buddy" to remember him by doing the right thing. He never could understand when people did otherwise, especially when it came to their children.

Memorial services will be held later this year on one of his favorite fishing piers, looking out to sea.
